Do all microcontrollers have the same number of programming times?


The microcontroller is actually a device equipped with a program. After the developer completes the program, he or she can burn the program. The microcontroller can execute the instructions written by the developer, but a dedicated burning tool must be used for program burning. People who operate microcontroller development boards should know that after programming is completed, the program needs to be burned multiple times during the adjustment and testing process. Even so, the microcontroller can continue to burn. Here comes the question, how many times can the MCU be burned? Do all microcontrollers have the same number of programming times?

In fact, different microcontrollers have different programming times, and the determining factor is their internal program memory ROM. Therefore, some can be burned 1 million times, some can only be burned once, and some cannot even burn microcontroller pictures.


A ROM that can be programmed multiple times


The ROM of the microcontroller is EEPROM or FLASH type, which can be erased multiple times. The flash of the two can be burned 1 million times. It can be said that it fully meets our usage needs. Most of the microcontrollers used in the market now are of this ROM and FLASH type. The burning speed is faster.


Can only burn ROM once


This kind of microcontroller is a PROM type. There are only two default types in its memory, all zero or all one. It can only be used for one-time programming. After the program burning is completed, the fuse melts and no further programming can be done. This type of microcontroller has a relatively cheap unit price, can be purchased in large quantities, and is very popular in China.


Unburnable ROM


This microcontroller cannot burn the mask ROM of the program. It has its own program shipped from the factory and cannot be deleted. The operator needs to provide corresponding procedures and copying instructions. The manufacturer directly writes the program based on the data. Its essence is the same as the one-time burning ROM. The program is only burned by the microcontroller manufacturer, and the price of this microcontroller is lower.
